Wirral Society 2017 Events Notice

As usual, the Society puts on a number of events for its members every year (non-members are also very welcome to attend).

For 2017, we have 4 scheduled events planned across the seasons starting with our lecture night on 26th January as follows…

W Victor Smith Memorial Lecture

  • Date: Thursday 26th January

Wirral Society AGM + W Victor Smith Memorial Lecture

  • Date: Thursday 2nd March
  • Time: 7:00pm

  • Details: our Annual General Meeting followed by a talk from Alf Plant (Director of Ainsley Gommon, Architects) & Peter Gommon – ‘The Liverpool Cooperatives: Lessons On Housing For a Wirral Practice’

Annual Outing

  • Date: Sunday 17th September
  • Time: 2:30pm
  • Details: A guided tour of Bidston Lighthouse by Stephen Pickles (access via Wilding Way, CH43 7RA)

Hot Pot Supper + W Victor Smith Memorial Lecture

  • Date: Wednesday 11th October
  • Time: 6:30pm for 7:00pm
  • Location: Wallasey Golf Club, Bayswater Rd, Wallasey, Wirral, CH45 8LA
  • Details: our Hot Pot supper followed by a talk from David Casement – ‘The Life & Work Of Thomas Brassey’

We will be issuing tickets for the Hot Pot Supper evening nearer the time, available to purchase on our website, but all other events are free to attend (no ticket required) and we look forward to welcoming you.

Hoylake Golf Resort Meeting

Chance To Question Hoylake Golf Resort Plans

The rather ambiguous land outline for Hoylake Golf Resort.

Hoylake Residents Forum are holding a public meeting “to discuss issues which will affect Hoylake, Meols and West Kirby, i.e. The Golf Resort; with Senior Council Officers” This could be an ideal opportunity to ask questions over the proposed controversial ‘Hoylake Golf Resort’.

No doubt, the Wirral Society will be sending a committee member to hear viewpoints.

Hot Pot Supper and W Victor Smith Lecture – Tuesday 7th October, 2014

Our popular, annual event will be held at The Hollins Hey Hotel, 191 Victoria Road, New Brighton CH45 0JY (near New Brighton station) at 6.30 for 7pm.

Please note new venue.

Hollins Hey Hotel, New BrightonThe speaker will be Mr Gavin Hunter who will give a talk entitled ‘From Turnpikes to Motorways; an historic ramble around Wirral Highways’.

The cost for the evening will be £12.00 per person.

If you would like to come, please email stating your interest in attending and how many tickets you will require.

This must be followed up by a cheque covering the correct amount to cover the number of tickets you have stated you wish to purchase.

Please make your cheque payable to The Wirral Society and send it to WS Hot Pot Supper, c/o 6 Church Meadow Lane, Heswall, Wirral, CH60 4SB.

Please remember to put your name, address & contact number on the reverse of your cheque! This is for identification, in case you are unsuccessful or if there is a problem. Your application will then be acknowledged by e-mail.

Tickets will be issued on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and applications will close on Monday 29th September, 2014. A register will be kept of successful applicants and tickets will be issued at the door. If you wish to receive your tickets in advance, please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope with your cheque.

Summer Meeting

A guided tour of St. Bridget’s Church and the new West Kirby Museum (meet at the church)

Tickets for Wirral Society events are issued on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. To apply for tickets please email stating the event(s) you wish to attend along with your name and number of tickets required.

Admission to Wirral Society events are unless otherwise stated, free to Wirral Society members and their guests. Successful applicants will be informed and their names registered for entry with ticket numbers, to be picked up on the door at the time of the event.
